Hi tribe!

My overarching theme for this year’s training and yoga classes will be SIMPLICITY. We are all asked to stretch ourselves every day. Sometimes that can result in feeling like taut rubber bands about to snap. So let’s take it down a notch, shall we? This year’s yoga isn’t about “learning” as defined by “acquiring knowledge and skill” (though I’m sure we will!). It’s going to be about accessing what’s within. Doing the RIGHT amount, no more, no less. Being guided by mindfulness and our internal compass. So this week’s yoga video will take you back to the essentials. Enjoy!

Hope to see you on the mat soon!

New Year’s Eve Special!

Tribe! I hope you’ll join me tomorrow at 9:15 am for a special New Year’s Eve Yoga and Burning Bowl Ceremony. This special class is held each year and people have said that it’s very meaningful.

Fire is transformative. You can see for yourself that a substantial log becomes ash in time, all the space it previously occupied is open once the wood burns. What in YOU is taking up space that you’d like to see used for something more life-affirming? We’ll take time after our yoga to write and draw these space hoggers on paper and put it to the fire with the intention to make room for 2015. It’s time!

We’ll be at Marks Street Center: 99 E Marks Street Orlando Fl 32803. 9:15-around 11 am. $8 seniors and tweeniors, $10 whippersnappers

The Holidays! The Holidays!

They’re here, tribe…the holidays!

This week’s video is “vintage”… from over two years ago. I share it because you may want to do some approachable sun salutations in order to stretch, energize and focus. The video provides alternatives for backing down your sun salutation. In yogaspeak, this is known as a “modification”. To embellish your poses or flows, you would use “variations”. Specifically here, you will be led through passing through child’s pose during a sun salutation, which can back down the intensity and physicality of the sequence… a welcome addition if you’re feeling fatigued or spent. We hope you enjoy it!

Holiday Schedule:

Class WILL BE HELD tomorrow Saturday Dec 20th 9:15 am at Marks Street

Class WILL BE HELD Monday Dec 22nd noon at City Hall and 5:45 pm at Marks Street

Class WILL BE HELD Tuesday Dec 23rd 9:15 am at Marks Street

Class WILL NOT BE HELD Tuesday Dec 23rd 5:15 pm at City Hall

Classes WILL NOT BE HELD Dec 24-January 1 EXCEPT FOR our special Burning Bowl Ceremony which WILL BE HELD Dec 31st 9:15 am at Marks Street.

I sincerely hope to see you soon and in the new year.

Better Balance In 7 Days!

Hello tribe!

Lu and I challenge YOU to a week of balancing. Here is a playlist to get you started! On Day 1, watch the introduction video and the first video. We suggest doing this at the beginning of your day so that you can incorporate the daily challenge in as many places as you can while you move through your day. On Day 2, watch the next video… and so on. They are in succession, from easier to harder balances.

Even if you think you’ve got balance to a T, give it a shot. And share them with friends. You may be surprised at the benefits you reap. Not just LITERALLY better balance, but stronger ankles and greater focus.

If you find the videos TOO EASY, close your eyes or shift your gaze. Hmmm… thought so ;)

Holiday Schedule: All classes will be held as scheduled December 15- Dec 23rd at all facilities. On Dec 23rd, class WILL BE held at Marks Street 9:15 am but WILL NOT be held at City Hall 5:15 pm. There will be NO CLASSES Dec 24th-January 2nd, except for our annual Burning Bowl Ceremony and Yoga class December 31st at 9:15 am,  at 99 E. Marks Street Center.

And a final announcement: As of January 3rd, I will be passing the Saturday Morning Yoga Teacher Torch to Sarah Holbrook for the 9:15 am classes at Marks Street. Sarah is a heartfelt, alignment-based yoga teacher. Many of you have taken her classes when she has subbed for me. Now it’s time for her to take the reins and have a class of her very own. If you haven’t had the pleasure, you will enjoy Sarah’s spirit and her teachings. I have so much enjoyed my Saturday morning classes for the last 10 years, but I can’t have ALL the fun.

Tribe, I just want you to know how much you mean to me. You keep me honest. There are days when I am so low I don’t want to get out of bed, but you are there, holding me gently and lovingly accountable. I truly enjoy our community and what we’ve built and I so look forward to growing it and continuing our journey together in 2015.

So much gratitude,

Wrist Therapy!

Happy Friday, tribe! Your weekly video is a gift for sore wrists. It is derived from a yoga therapy routine for carpel tunnel pain. Some helpful hints: Set a timer for every 2 hours while you are working at your desk to remind you to stand up and stretch your wrists. Also, if your wrists hurt in Downward Facing Dog/Plank/etc., perform these stretches when you’ve come out of the pose for some relief.

Also, a reminder about upcoming holidays: Classes will NOT be held December 24th-January 1st. EXCEPT FOR our very special annual Yoga and Burning Bowl Ceremony December 31st at 9:15 am. More on that later in the month!

Get Up, Stand Up!

Hi Tribe!

I hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving! Here’s a short video on getting up from the floor. Being able to get up on my own is something I’m very thankful for. Aren’t we all striving to be self-sufficient? Getting up and down without help is a real esteem-booster!

We’ve offered a few variations… can you think of others? Have fun!!!

Hey You! I See Your Computer Posture!

Not really. But I can just about guess! I believe that yoga is not necessarily about being “better”: not even in the realms of flexibility or strength. Rather, I believe that we obtain yoga’s benefits when we use it to “erase our day”: by doing movements that perform the opposite way of those in our daily routines. This short video is a must-see for those who sit a lot.

Classes WILL be held Saturday 11/22, Monday 11/24, Tuesday 11/25 (except for City Hall 5:15 pm) and Wednesday 11/26. Classes WILL NOT be held Thursday 11/27, Friday 11/28, or Saturday 11/29. Classes will resume as usual December 1st.

Happy Thanksgiving, all! I’m grateful for your presence in my life.

An Oldie But A Goodie

Happy Friday, tribe!

This video is from a few years ago and instructs you on Chair pose against the wall. I hope you enjoy it!

Oh… and the holidays are here! The holidays are here! I hope you’re having a GREAT season. There will be no classes held November 27th, 28th, or 29th.
